The A2Z of Parenting, D- Descipline

Moving further in A2Z of parenting Fourth Letter and Word is D- Descipline

Effective Discipline ‘teaches’ children what is right and helps to make right decision. It is necessary to start disciplining kids in young age. Descipline brings positive changes or positivity in life. This is different from punishment which focuses on what is wrong. The most important thing we can do for our children and infact teenagers too is to keep open communication and protect their self esteem. This in turn will help them make positive choices in life (in future too).

Punishment might be misunderstood as revenge, It is harmful to the parent-child relationship, even though misbehaviours may stop, this is because of fear and anger, which might affect the child later. It doesn’t teach children to make positive or right choices in the future.

Discipline is based on teaching and learning, also on experience. Also, Communication plays vital role here, kids do understand when we explain them the consequences of both the choices (Positive & Negative). Teaches children new positive behaviours and helps them feel safe and learn to be responsible.

Tried to pendown the outcomes from our experience, will me more than happy if this helps you in anyway. We try to do our best everyday for our kids’ better future and trying help them be responsible adults and contribute in making this world a better place to live. Hope you like the article 😊

As parents we are constantly walking this tightrope of whether to discipline our children or not – and also where to draw the line.

  2. inculcating discipline in kids is a must. Unfortunately, parents nowadays have become lax

  3. You have made a valid point. Punishment should not be the method of discipline. Kids are intelligent enough to understand when explained to.

  4. Totally agree with you. Communication is important and telling them about negative and positive outcomes helps them to understand better.

Love this week’s word Pooja… i have lived a childhood of discipline, since I went to a Convent and I had a ‘hitler’ granny at home😛. I agree that discipline is very imp as many things become a lifelong habit eg. punctuality is a discipline n if it is not learnt in childhood it is never learnt.

  7. Discipline is something that parents should start from infancy. These days screens and idiot boxes rule and kids are glued to them. If a certain time is dedicated to that kids too will understand and won’t throw tantrums. Even food and bedtime or study time have to be regulated.

  8. Discipline in life brings happiness, satisfaction in life. It plays an important role specially when a chid is growing.

  9. Discipline and Communication both are important. Very important.message dear.

  10. I completely agree with you. It is important to make the child understand what they have done wrong instead of just punishing them. Or they will become stubborn.

  11. I agree on the importance of discipline but some form of punishment might be necessary. I still remember how I was raised by a strict set of parents and I am nothing but thankful to them for that.

  12. The right amount of discipline is always good for child. They need it and want you to keep them in line, but gently.. Good reading.

  13. Disciplining is often misunderstood when parents are strict. But it is what makes the child a better person tomorrow

  14. I agree punishment leads negative effects too. We have to communication with the child so that they will have a positive behavior.

  15. I totally agree with you discipline is very important for a kids future. But discipline through just punishment creates rebels. Discipline can be brought by life experiences and teachings also.
